Privacy Policy
Your face stays yours.

Paid artist lesson records
We retain booking and payment references, the payment policy you accepted, session connection and end times, and issue reports to handle refunds and disputes. Authorized support staff can review these records and provide relevant evidence to Stripe and the banks handling a dispute. Attendance timestamps do not include recordings of your audio or video. Room chat is not retained as dispute evidence.
What we collect
We collect your account email, display name, beauty-profile answers, product list, user-confirmed Face Blueprint categories, subscription status, AI usage counts, and looks you deliberately choose to save. Payment details are handled by the store you bought through: Stripe for website purchases, and Apple for purchases made in the iOS app. Makeup Bestie never receives or stores your full card number. For iOS purchases we use RevenueCat to confirm whether a subscription is active; it receives a Makeup Bestie account identifier and the purchase status reported by Apple, not your payment details.
Photos and camera
Facial landmarks and private Glam Room tracking run on your device. Private lesson camera footage is not recorded or uploaded. Bare-face scan photos and raw landmark coordinates are not saved by default. If you confirm a Face Blueprint, only its editable feature categories and optional skin concerns sync to your account. When you explicitly request an AI preview, the selected photo, tutorial reference, and confirmed beauty-profile context may be sent to OpenAI for that request. A generated preview is stored only when you choose “Save look.”
Shared live rooms
When you join a private Glam Room and turn on your camera or microphone, your live video and audio are sent to the other people in that invite-only room, with up to five people total. If a direct connection is not possible, the encrypted connection may pass through Cloudflare’s relay. Makeup Bestie does not record or store room video or audio. Room chat messages are stored in Supabase while the room operates and are deleted when the host ends the room or within 24 hours. Temporary connection details are also deleted within 24 hours. Face guidance runs on your device and is never shared with the room.
Face data
What we collect. When you take or choose a face photo, Makeup Bestie detects facial landmarks on your device. The photo and the landmark coordinates are not uploaded to our servers and are not stored. From those landmarks the app suggests editable feature categories: face shape, eye openness, direction and spacing, brow arch, nose width and length, lip balance, and cheek placement, plus any skin concerns you choose to add. After you review and confirm them, these categories are saved to your account as your Face Blueprint. Your Face Blueprint contains no photos, no landmark coordinates and no facial geometry, and it cannot be used to identify you.
How we use it. Face data is used only to adapt makeup placement and lesson instructions to your features. We do not use face data to identify or authenticate you, for advertising, or to train AI models, and we do not sell it or share it except with the service providers named in this section, only to provide the feature you requested.
AI previews. Only if you confirm and tap to generate a preview, the one photo you selected is sent to OpenAI, together with the tutorial reference image and your confirmed Face Blueprint categories, so that OpenAI can return the preview image. Under OpenAI’s API terms, this data is not used to train OpenAI’s models and may be kept by OpenAI for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before it is deleted. Makeup Bestie does not store the photo you sent. The generated preview image is stored only if you tap “Save look.”
Where it is stored. Your Face Blueprint and any saved preview images are stored with our database provider, Supabase, in access-restricted storage tied to your account. Other users cannot access them.
How long we keep it. Your Face Blueprint is kept until you replace it with a new scan, remove it in Profile, or delete your account. A saved preview image is kept until you delete that look or delete your account. Deleting your account from Profile deletes your Face Blueprint and all saved preview images immediately.
Optional live coach
The live coach is off by default and requests microphone access only when you start it. It receives the current lesson step and beauty-profile context through an encrypted audio session, but it does not receive your live camera video. The browser receives only a short-lived OpenAI session credential; the permanent API key remains on the server. Ending the coach or leaving the Glam Room stops the microphone track.
Beauty Bestie calls (website)
Calls are off until you start one and allow your camera and microphone. During a call, your voice and still photos from your camera, taken when you start speaking, are sent through an encrypted session to OpenAI so the coach can hear you and see what you mean, together with your beauty-profile details. They are used only to give you beauty advice in that call. Makeup Bestie does not record or store call audio, video or photos; we keep only the call’s length and usage totals. A call lasts up to 6 minutes. Turning the camera off stops the photos, and ending the call stops the camera and microphone. “Shop” buttons open the retailer’s website; in future some of these links may earn Makeup Bestie a commission, which never changes the price you pay or which shades the coach picks for you.
Beauty Bestie chat (website)
When you send a message to your Beauty Bestie, the conversation and your beauty-profile details (such as face shape, skin tone and style preferences) are sent to OpenAI to write the reply. We don’t save the chat transcript; it stays on your screen until you close it. We keep a simple usage record (that a message was sent, whether a routine was suggested, and the budget you picked) to run credits and prevent abuse. “Shop” links open a store search; if we later earn a commission from those links, we will say so next to them.
Sharing a look
Nothing is shared unless you tap Share My Look. When you do, we store the look’s title, its steps, your first name and, only if you leave “Show my after photo on the link page” on, your after photo. Anyone with the link can see those. Your before photo is never uploaded: it only goes into the share image made on your phone. Your face scan, face map and full name are never shared. You can take a shared link down at any time, which deletes the photo. Anyone can report a shared look for review.
Help Me Choose polls and Community
When you start a Help Me Choose poll, anyone with the link can see your first name, your question, the choices and any photos you add. Polls are private by default; if you choose Public, signed-in Makeup Bestie members can also see and vote on it in Help me choose. Friends can vote without an account; we keep one random ID in a cookie on their phone so each phone votes once, and it is not linked to anyone’s identity. Polls close after 24 hours and you can take one down at any time, which deletes its photos. Ideas you send on the Community board show your first name and are visible to other signed-in members. Communities are text-only spaces: your posts and replies show your first name to signed-in members who can see that community (anyone can read a public community, but visitors who are not signed in never see names; a private community is only visible to people with its invite link). You can remove your own posts, report or block others, and community owners can remove posts and members. We may hide ideas that break our terms.
Tutorial analysis
Permitted uploaded videos and accessible public tutorials are sampled into still frames for lesson creation. Makeup Bestie sends those selected frames and your beauty-profile context to OpenAI, but does not permanently store the source video. Those frames may show the face of the person in the tutorial. They are used only to read the makeup technique and are never used to build a Face Blueprint. The step list read from a tutorial (products, order and timing, with no images) is saved privately to your account so the same video always gives you the same routine, and it is deleted with your account. Inaccessible links are rejected rather than treated as analyzed.
How data is used and shared
We use account data to personalize lessons, provide subscriptions, prevent abuse, and operate the service. Production infrastructure may process data through Vercel, Supabase, Stripe, Apple, RevenueCat, OpenAI, and Cloudflare. Cloudflare is used only to relay encrypted live-room connections when devices cannot connect directly. We do not sell facial images or camera footage, and we do not use your data for advertising or tracking across other companies’ apps and websites.
Your choices
You can stop the camera immediately, remove or replace your Face Blueprint in Profile, avoid generating or saving a preview, delete individual saved looks, cancel billing (in your Apple ID subscription settings for App Store purchases, or the Stripe billing portal for website purchases), or delete your account and associated Makeup Bestie data from Profile. Legal or payment records may be retained where required.
Children
Makeup Bestie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Creating an account requires you to be at least 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will delete the account and its associated data.
